The Canadian Hydrography Association (CHA), the national voice for hydrography professionals, plays a vital role in promoting the science and practice of hydrography across Canada. Their legacy website no longer reflected their leadership in the industry and lacked the tools necessary to support their expanding membership base.
CHA approached Pragmatica with a clear vision for their new website. They wanted to implement a modern membership subscription model that would allow professionals to join or renew their memberships online and access exclusive resources. A critical requirement was the development of a gated, members-only area to house educational content, industry updates, and collaboration tools for their network. CHA also wanted to create a platform that could spotlight their featured partners in the hydrography industry, showcasing projects and initiatives in collaboration with other Canadian organizations. To support their mission, the website needed to provide an engaging and accessible experience for users, encouraging membership growth and strengthening community ties.
Pragmatica approached the project with a collaborative, research-driven process designed to deliver on CHA’s vision.
1. Discovery and UX Research
The process began with stakeholder workshops to define CHA’s goals and understand their audience: hydrographers, students, and partner institutions. Pragmatica conducted user research and competitor analysis to guide the development of an intuitive navigation structure and a seamless user journey for both members and public visitors.
2. Design and Branding Alignment
A modern, professional design was created to reflect CHA’s leadership in the hydrography field. The visual identity prioritized clarity and usability, with a focus on showcasing CHA’s mission, events, and partner collaborations. The gated members-only area was designed to host exclusive educational content and downloadable resources, creating a valuable hub for CHA’s growing community.
3. Development and Integrations
Pragmatica built the site on a scalable platform to support CHA’s membership subscription model, including secure payment gateways and automated renewals. The members-only area allowed logged-in users to access exclusive articles, webinars, and collaboration forums. Partner promotion modules were implemented to highlight featured organizations and joint projects prominently throughout the site. Additional integrations included an event calendar, newsletter signup forms, and basic analytics to track user engagement.
4. Post-Launch Support and Training
To ensure CHA’s team could manage the platform effectively, Pragmatica provided training sessions and detailed documentation. Post-launch support included monitoring site performance and assisting with fine-tuning user flows and content updates.
The new CHA website transformed their digital presence into a dynamic and user-friendly platform that aligns with their mission.
The project positioned CHA as a modern, forward-thinking organization ready to support the next generation of hydrography professionals.
